中谷芙二子+高谷史郎 新作インスタレーション 「CLOUD FOREST」関連A:E.A.T.のマニフェスト原文英語

The Purpose and function of E.A.T.

The purpose of E.A.T. is to make materials, technology and engineering available to any contemporary artist. It is felt that an effective solution to technical problems posed by artists can only be achieved if industrial Laboratories accept the full responsibility for the solution of such problems. This means that not only should the industrial laboratory provide the technical help necessary but also pay all costs for materials, etc.. All patens and commercial ideas stemming from the work with the artists will be belong to the industrial laboratory in question and not to the artist nor to E.A.T.. The function of the collaboration is for the artist to be able to realize his work and be stimulating for engineers.

E.A.T. will act as a transducer between the artist and the industrial laboratory. E.A.T. will give the artist a maximum of help in their dealings with industry, such as arranging for projects to be initiated where and when, eliminating red tape and acting as the artist spokesman in relation to the industrial laboratory. No business matter can transpire between the artist and the industrial laboratory. E.A.T., in its dealings with industry will attempt to present each project in such a way as to minimize wasted time and misunderstandings. Each problem will be transferred from the artists language into a suitable technical language. Ideally, a direct artist --engineer working relationship should be set up through the intermediary of E.A.T. before the artist himself contacts the industrial laboratory. It is recognized that an effective artist, --- engineer relationship within the industrial framework cannot be established unless the artist is given the opportunity to familiarize himself with technology, the engineer's personality and language.

The member of E.A.T. will consist of interested artists and engineers. The engineers will become members of E.A.T. independently of their industrial affiliation and as an act of interest. The member engineers will;

1 Provide information on materials
2 Translate the artist's problem into a language which can be presented to industry
3 Make it possible for artists to tour industries
4 Through discussions and meetings with artists, answer questions about engineering, generate ideas and establish personal contacts
5 Solve an "underground" within each industry so that when the artist is in direct contact with industry someone is available who can speak his language

The permanent staff of E.A.T. will help solve simple problems rapidly and efficiently, recruit member engineers from industry, furnish technical information, write proposals, service equipment, form discussion group meetings and provide lectures by member engineers.

As E.A.T. becomes successful, many of it functions can be transferred to industry, to the professional engineering societies and to universities. What will remain should be an artist --- engineering society for the development and protection of a continually changing collaborative effort.

The flowchart shown in this issue was presented at the first organizational meeting of E.A.T. on December 14, 1966.
Change in the organizational structure will take place in accordance with our organic development.

Cover Message from "E.A.T. NEWS" (1967)

Maintain a constructive climate for the recognition of the new technology and the arts by a civilized collaboration between groups unrealistically developing in isolation.
Eliminate the separation of the individual from technological change and expand and enrich technology to give the individual variety, pleasure and avenues for exploration and involvement in contemporary life.
Encourage industrial initiative in generating original forethought, instead of a compromise in aftermath, and precipitate a mutual agreement in order to avoid the waste of cultural revolution.
